Back Training after a week off

PC300504

Last race Forest Festive on Saturday 20th Dec, hard 40 min effort, followed by a hard 60 mins up the Law the following day has been my last efforts.  Had a Great Christmas with all the family being under the one roof, Yasmin coming back from Glasgow Uni, Maryann being off since Christmas Eve and not going back until next Monday with the schools going back next Tuesday.

So I got the chance to get out and do my first run back after a week off.  Wanted to keep it slow and long so I thought the best thing to do is to go the hills.  One of my favourites that is close by is Benarty Hill near Ballingry which was introduced to me by my good friend and great runner Richie Cunningham.

There is a new path opened up behind Vane Farm which takes you up Benarty this route also goes round some of Loch Leven which I have heard can take you up Bishops Hill, still to find out.

Done 60mins easy running with some walking through Heather which was not planned.

PB020172

Many Congratulations to Gail Murdoch who has won her first Scottish Vest for the Anglo Celtic Cup in Southern Ireland in April next year. Gail shall be competing against the best from all the Home Countries, Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales.  She achieved this by having an outstanding year in 2008 which was topped by being Crowned the Scottish Female Champion 100k or 62.5miles in Perth in the summer in 9hours, Gail completed her first non stop 95miles West Highland Way race 2hours under her own predicted time of 24 hours in June and the London Marathon in April in little over 3hours, a tremendous well done and I’m sure you join with me in wishing her continued success.

Another Win for Dundee United

Yesterday Monday I spent up at my normal Monday afternoon haunt,Tannandice where the mood in the camp is brilliant, with nearest rivals Hearts dropping points at Aberdeen in a heated battle and Celtic increasing their lead on Rangers at Ibrox this meant United closed the gap second position.

PB130380

Celtic shall be keen to keep the gap at 7 points from Rangers however United are eager to continue their great form to continue to catch Rangers and leave Hearts in 4th position it’s a tall order, however Hearts take on their Edinburgh rivals Hibs so the weekend looks set to be an exciting one.

Benarty Hill Run 0745 Tues morning

Arrangements were made to have a run off road close to Dunfermline to save Ryan McKenzie’s calfs, so the decision was made to go up Benarty Hill, 400meters from a good friend;s house Richie Cunningham who had just returned from Central America after running over 11 hours in a 100k race and winning it, text him to ask if he was about.

0745 still black outside but thought better get started on the trail going up to Benarty from the Ballingry side, we could see the track just. climb climb climb we were out for 90mins covered 8 miles nearly 3300 ft of climbing(Confirmed by Garmin GPS)and not 1600ft as previously stated.  Got back to the car at 9.20am still no word from Richie, later got a message at 11am saying that he was in his bed, jet lag paying it’s price.

Tonight working from home

Funding boost for Carnegie upgrade

The redevelopment of Carnegie Leisure Centre in Dunfermline has received a funding boost after sportscotland agreed to contribute £1.1m towards the project. Fife Council is leading the scheme as part of a £50m investment in local sports facilities, which will also see the redevelopment of the Fife Institute of Physical and Recreation Education in Glenrothes, and a new swimming complex in Kirkcaldy.Designs for the refurbished Carnegie Leisure Centre have now been finalised, and will include new changing and reception areas, a new 90-station gym, two new, purpose-built aerobic studios and an upgrade of the sports hall.Work will also see an extension of the centre’s training pool, the installation of a moveable floor and a new health village.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust manages and operates the facility on behalf of Fife Council. The trust’s chief executive, Ed Watson, said: “A contribution of this scale reflects the confidence that sportscotland has in the project, and the long-term sporting legacy it will deliver to the community.”

Carnegie Leisure Centre is set to close in order to allow the redevelopment to take place, and is scheduled to reopen in January 2011.
