Sunday Training Run

A day after the WHW Richie had Kindly organised a B&B in Fort William.  Boy I think we all needed it especially the runners who worked very hard.  Prior to breakfast I had promised myself to do an hour training of any kind today Sunday 21st June as we never got a chance on saturday as Ryan and I supported Richie who was one of the top 10  runners in the race.   Official rules of the WHW state the first top ten runners  are not allowed any support they must run the 95 mile distance alone.

So Ryan and I started out from the sea front towards Fort William main Town Centre then turned right up the Lundavra Road.  We continued on the single road until we reach the checkpoint for WHW runners at at Lundavra before entering the track into the forest.   At this point we turned and headed back,  the rain was pouring heavily and the wind was icy cold, we were on ground level and looking to our right through the misty rain we could see Ben Nevis, in my head I am thinking ‘what must it be like up there’?

Anyway done a steady 30 mins out 30 mins back,  soaked to the skin but worth it!  Like everyone who was at the WHW I enjoyed the experience and watching so many endurance athelites push so hard to finish this 95 mile challenge is very inspiring, upliflting and fulfilling.

Presentation at noon after a hearty breakfast from Flora’s B&B.   I’ll be back to visit Flora, her cooking’s tremendous.   Thanks Richie for the recommendation!!!

West Highland Way

A brilliant day for the runners who started off on Saturday morning at 1am from Milngavie railway station on their way to their destination in Fort William 95miles from their starting point! Awesome!

I was supporting Wee Richie Cunningham who had a great race smashing his Personal Best by nearly half an hour in 18 hrs.  Carnegie Harriers had a great showing of 4 woman and wee Richie.   Gail Murdoch who was doing the race for the first time she had a fantastic run and probably the best time that any woman has ever done on the WHW on their first attempt so bloody well done to her!

Lynne Kuz again smashed her PB and again was 2nd Woman, in a finishing time of 20 hrs and 39 mins, unbelievable what a woman!

The two sisters Fiona Rennie and Pauline Walker also ran well with Pauline overtaking Gail around Kinlochleven with 15 mins between them finishing time 22hours.  Fiona battled hard through the darkness and heavy rain with 27 hours of running coming into Fort William in the wee small hours of sunday morning drenched and exhilarated with her support crew Peter Humphries and Val Macauly.

Details of the race and results are on:     http://www.westhighlandwayrace.org/

Details of Carnegie Harriers: http://www.carnegie-harriers.co.uk/

Photos shall be uploaded in the next few days on Flicker from this site

Top 10 position to date in Scotland.

For the Scottish Hill Running Championship!  A few better runners absent from Durisdeer which gives me the advantage in points and hopefully gain  a better position.

I will not be competing in the Falkland Hill Race this Saturday due to commitments in the West Highland Way, best wishes to all who take part!

65th in British Championship Hill Race, Durisdeer 16th June 08.

With a field of normally 30 or so brave souls running over the hills of Durisdeer with the introduction of a Scottish Hill Running counter and a British Championship race was bound to see a big field, World Champion Angela Mudge won the ladies place breaking the course record and coming 35th overall.  With the men’s record also being broken by Rob Jebb of Bingley.

I finished in 65th however, I believe I might jump up a few places in the Scottish Hill Running Championship, details not yet updated confirmation to follow shortly.  Race results are located here http://www.shr.uk.com/RaceResults.aspx?RaceID=RA-0060&RaceYear=2008
