Also on Saturday at Llanberis, Scotland’s age-group hill racing teams will take part in the UK Junior Hill International. This competition is competed for over two age-groups with 3 to count from a team of 4. Travelling for this competition are will be: U16 Girls – Myrtle Breckenridge (Shettleston); Emma and Oonagh Dunnett (Edinburgh); Louise Mercer (Teviotdale). Comrades Marathon 2012 Entries are now being taken.

2012 COMRADES MARATHON ENTRIES NOW OPEN!

Dear Comrades Runner,
It is that time of the year again when entries open up for you to officially be part of South Africa’s most exciting road race and the world’s greatest ultra-marathon, as endorsed by the Guinness World Records.
Many of you would have already heard of the opening of entries on the radio, read about it in newspapers across the country or possibly seen the news flash on our website www.comrades.com But for those of you, our esteemed Comrades veteran and novice runners, who have not yet heard the good news, here’s your chance to cash in on the latest Comrades developments.
The 2012 Comrades entry process is open for three months, starting on 1 September 2011 and closing on 30 November 2011. There will only be one entry window period for ALL ATHLETES to enter whether they are former Comrades runners or first-timers.
Entries will be limited to a maximum of 18,000 and no extensions will be granted. We urge all runners and potential runners who wish to run in 2012 to take careful note of the entry process and we suggest that you enter early to avoid disappointment.
Early Bird Entry for South African runners is R270.00 which is only valid between 1 September 2011 and 30 September 2011. Thereafter the entry fee will be R300.00. The entry fee for athletes from the Rest of Africa is R500.00 and the entry fee for the International Comrades participants is US$180.00.

Closing Date of Entries

Please take note that the entry period will close on the 30 November 2011 or once the 18,000 cap has been reached.

Qualifying Criteria

Qualifying period for 2012 will be as follows: 29 May 2011 to 4 May 2012.
Runners who have finished the 2011 Comrades Marathon can use their finishing time for the 2012 race. Please note that you will still need to submit an entry form.
As in 2011, runners will be able to enter before they qualify. This means that while all entries will have to meet the entry criteria above, you will still be allowed to qualify in official qualifying races up until 4 May 2012. Upon qualification, you simply need to submit the time and details of your qualifying race through to the CMA offices before close of business on 4 May 2012. Your entry will be confirmed upon receiving the qualifying information.

Club Information (for South African athletes only)

As a 2012 participant in The Ultimate Human Race, you will not be in possession of your 2012 license by the time you enter; however you are still required to comply with the rule that you are licensed through an officially registered athletics club affiliated to Athletics South Africa (ASA).
As with the qualifying criteria, runners will be able to enter for Comrades 2012 prior to receiving their 2012 license. Runners will however have to submit their club name and license number to the CMA by 4 May 2012. Failure to submit these details will result in the entry being rejected.
Please note that the CMA will send all qualifying times and details to each athlete’s club for verification purposes. This has been necessitated due to the fact that some athletes submit false information and qualifying times. Please note that submitting false information will result in an athlete’s entry being rejected.

Tips from Baxters

As title sponsor of the Loch Ness Marathon, Baxters understands the importance of preparing your body for the big event.

With only two weeks to go until Marathon ‘D’ Day it is vital to ensure you are taking the correct steps to allow you to train and perform to the very best of your ability.

To avoid injury or getting sick before the race check out our top tips. Read more here.

Top Training Tips

In his monthly series, Adrian Stott, one of Scotland’s most experienced ultra-distance runners, former British 24 hour champion and manager of specialist running store, Run and Become, offers advice and training tips.

All coaches will tell you that trying to cram extra training into the last 2 weeks is pretty useless and will result in you getting to the start line jaded and tired. So you just have to accept what you have done up to now and plan your race goal accordingly. Read more here.

http://www.scottishhillracing.co.uk/RaceDetails.aspx?RaceID=RA-0080

Race Details
Race Date Wednesday, 13 July 2011
Start Time 7:30pm
Venue Car Park, Tillicoultry Glen
Website http://www.ochilhillrunners.org.uk
Distance 9.8 km
Climb 710 m
Record (M) 0:47:39 - Billy Rodgers (1996)
Record (F) 0:53:10 - Angela Mudge (1999)
Description
Race Profile

Possibly the best, and generally the longest time-wise, of the mid-week Bog and Burn races. The race starts up a near vertical grass slope adorned with gorse bushes, before breaking onto a runnable path and a short rocky descent to a burn crossing. The ascent up the nose of The Law is largely hands on knees, with only short sections of shuffle running. The route then opens out across the grassy tops of Ben Cleuch and Andrew Gannel Hill, before dropping into a narrow trod high above Gannel Burn where overtaking is virtually impossible. The final section of downhill is frighteningly fast and tricky before thenear vertical plummet to the finish.
