CLUB DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY – NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEKEND – 16 & 17 JULY AT SCOTSTOUN

Athletics in Scotland has a simple vision: Increase the numbers of people participating in our sport, and improve the performance of those with talent and aptitude to do so. The vision set out in the National Strategy for Athletics (November, 2010) clearly states that a renaissance of athletics in Scotland should be achieved through developing strong, vibrant, family clubs at the core of their communities, amongst other objectives.

As you will be aware, we now have a new National Development Team in place and we have never been better placed to lead a renaissance of the sport.  Our aim is to become the best athletics nation, proportionately, in the world once again and the development of athletics clubs is essential to the expansion of our sport in Scotland. We firmly believe that this environment can, and will be created through focusing our work on supporting clubs and coaches in particular, through the development and creation of several national development programmes. In particular, our work will be underpinned through the new National Club Development Programme, Club Legacy 2014 – a dynamic, innovative and industry-leading club development programme that will ensure we support Scotland’s network of athletics clubs to grow and raise standards that will deliver improved opportunities in communities across Scotland and follows the culmination of a 12 month listening and consultation process with clubs.

The Club Legacy 2014 programme (and supporting documentation) will be available online in the next couple of weeks and will be followed by updates through our network of Regional Managers. However, for those clubs who wish to find out more about the new programme, Mark Munro, our new Head of Development, will be holding several drop-in sessions at the National Senior Championships at Scotstoun.

The drop-in sessions will take place in the Media Suite in the Stadium and will be available at the following times;

Saturday – 11.00am & 1.00pm
Sunday – 10.45am & 1.00pm

For further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mark or any of the Regional Managers to discuss opportunities for your club. Contact Details are available on the website (www.scottishathletics.org.uk)

Work starts on £21m Fife Institute project

Construction work is now underway on a new £21m sports and leisure facility to replace the existing Fife Institute for Physical and Recreational Educational (FIPRE) in Glenrothes.Graham Construction has been chosen by Fife Council to build the new complex, which has been designed by B3 Architects and Cre8 Architecture.

Facilities will include a 25m x 17m, eight-lane competition pool with viewing gallery to cater for 250 spectators and a 20m x 10m training pool with a moveable floor.

Elsewhere, a 11m x 5m teaching and remedial pool; a strength and conditioning studio and separate aerobics studio; and a 80-station fitness suite will be on offer at the new centre.

Eight regional-standard badminton courts and two squash courts are also planned as part of the indoor facilities, while a full-size synthetic pitch is among outdoor facilities to be built.

The scheme forms part of Fife Council’s wider £50m investment in local sports and leisure facilities, with the complex to be operated by Fife Sports and Leisure Trust (FSLT).

FSLT chief executive Ed Watson said: “The new facilities will replace a much-loved leisure centre, which has served Glenrothes well over the decades.”

The new complex is scheduled to open in spring 2013.

Classes on as normal all the Week!

Just to confirm that all classes are as normal this week, starting tonight at Rosyth’s Ex Servicemans Club, we do intend to re-locate at some point however as you can appreciate my personal issues have put paid to this search of late, but the move shall happen.

I can reassure you and everyone that, although recent events are and have been distressing for all the family and although tough, this predicatment shall not deter me from my focus at the Circuit Classes, my work or my own training, as yesterday proved, I still managed to retain the Garry Riddell Trophy at the Dunfermline Half Marathon for the 7th year running albeit in a slightly slower time of 1.16 which can be allowed for the state of mind I’ve been in.

So this being said, we shall see you tonight or in the future, either our classes the beach or at my temporary address where I shall be taking Professional Massage sessions on top of taking Massage Appointments at Clarity House which is in the centre of Dunfermline.

You can book appointments in the normal way.

I should have broadband in my Flat from Friday so communications again should be better.
