A wee note from Fellow Club Runner/Friend & Circuiteer Sue Walker

Sue pictures here woth her daughter Kathy.

Folks,

In 2010 Girlguiding celebrates its centenary.  In 2010, the Long Distance Walkers Association are holding their first ever 100 mile event in Scotland.  Call it serendipity or call it madness, but I have decided to combine the two and run, walk and stagger the Heart of Scotland to raise money for Girlguiding Fife’s centenary celebrations.  The event takes place a week before Girlguiding Fife’s Kingdom Kapers event when we will have around 300 girls camping and another 1800 attending a marvellous day of fun and celebration in the East Neuk of Fife.

One of the less obvious forms of discrimination is economic deprivation.  I don’t want any of our members to miss these opportunities because their families cannot afford to pay for them to go.  (It costs £50 for the weekend camp and £10 for the activity day.)  Please support me in my centenary effort to allow Girlguiding Fife to celebrate their centenary in style!

As part of my training and build up, I have completed a couple of long races.  I ran 50 miles around Rotherham in October (12.5 hours) and then in March I completed the Glasgow to Edinburgh double marathon (55 miles) in just over 11 hours.  Given that the Heart of Scotland 100 is actually 104 miles and contains 13,500 feet of climbing and a fair amount of navigation by compass, I’m expecting to take around 36 hours (anything less than the permitted 48 hours would be fine though).
