The Scottish Government’s new Take Life On campaign launched on Monday 17 January 2011.
The campaign aims to encourage Scots to take small achievable steps towards eating healthier and being more physically active.
The first phase of the campaign to be launched this month will focus for the first time on children, specifically targeting the parents of those aged 7 – 11, in a bid to help motivate behaviour change and help reduce childhood obesity.
For children, the recommended physical activity levels are 60 minutes a day of moderate activity per day, however research suggests almost two thirds of Scottish parents are unaware of this (Source: HITS data, April 2010).

Junior jogscotland provides a fun and simple way to get children active in Scotland. The programme of running related games can be used for as little as a 10 minute run around for your young ones to let off steam and stretch their legs, to more sustained running games which can last for up to an hour at a time and be carried out over a longer period of time, like a mileage challenge.
Junior jogscotland offers a range of games suitable for primary school aged children. The games can be a perfect way to introduce youngsters to different athletic activities, as well as teaching the fundamentals of athletics such as balance, co-ordination, flexibility and the importance of team work.
jogscotland Manager Alistair Currie said: “The junior jogscotlandprogramme has proven popular with even the most unsporty of children. By incorporating fun, active games into the daily routines of youngsters, a behavioural change can be achieved when it comes to how youngsters view physical activity. Junior jogscotland proves that you don’t have to be sporty to enjoy being active!”
