A day after the WHW Richie had Kindly organised a B&B in Fort William. Boy I think we all needed it especially the runners who worked very hard. Prior to breakfast I had promised myself to do an hour training of any kind today Sunday 21st June as we never got a chance on saturday as Ryan and I supported Richie who was one of the top 10 runners in the race. Official rules of the WHW state the first top ten runners are not allowed any support they must run the 95 mile distance alone.
So Ryan and I started out from the sea front towards Fort William main Town Centre then turned right up the Lundavra Road. We continued on the single road until we reach the checkpoint for WHW runners at at Lundavra before entering the track into the forest. At this point we turned and headed back, the rain was pouring heavily and the wind was icy cold, we were on ground level and looking to our right through the misty rain we could see Ben Nevis, in my head I am thinking ‘what must it be like up there’?
Anyway done a steady 30 mins out 30 mins back, soaked to the skin but worth it! Like everyone who was at the WHW I enjoyed the experience and watching so many endurance athelites push so hard to finish this 95 mile challenge is very inspiring, upliflting and fulfilling.
Presentation at noon after a hearty breakfast from Flora’s B&B. I’ll be back to visit Flora, her cooking’s tremendous. Thanks Richie for the recommendation!!!
